A dining table is the piece a family actually uses every day, and it is priced like a luxury item almost everywhere else in town.
We buy name-brand overstock and major retailer returns by the truckload and sell at 30 to 50 percent of retail. Tables, chairs, stools, all of it.
We sell tables and chairs separately
Most stores sell you a set because the set is where the margin lives. We sell the table and we sell the chairs, and you put them together yourself.
There is a practical reason. Truckload freight does not arrive in tidy matched sets. A table comes off one load and a set of six chairs comes off another. Pretending otherwise would mean throwing away good pieces.
There is also a design reason. A wood table with chairs that contrast looks intentional. A table with the chairs it shipped with looks like a catalog page. Pick a table you like, then pick chairs that argue with it a little.
The savings are real. Buying the two separately usually beats a matched set by a wide margin.
What we stock
Rectangular, round and oval tables. Two-tone and solid finishes. Counter height tables. Pedestal bases and four leg bases.
Chairs by the set, usually four to eight matching. Upholstered chairs, wooden chairs, metal frame chairs. Bar stools and counter stools. Barrel chairs and accent seating.
Tabletops and bases occasionally come in separately, which is a cheap way to build exactly what you want if you are willing to hunt.
Get the height right
This is the mistake we see most.
Counter height stools are about 24 to 26 inches at the seat and go under a 36 inch counter. Bar height stools are about 29 to 31 inches and go under a 42 inch bar.
Measure the underside of your counter, not the top. Then subtract about 10 to 12 inches for legroom. That number is your seat height. Buy to that number and ignore what the stool is called.
How many people actually fit
Allow 24 inches of table edge per person. A 60 inch table seats four comfortably and six if everybody is friendly. A 72 inch table is a real six.
Then leave 36 inches between the table edge and the wall or the nearest cabinet so people can pull a chair out and walk behind it. A table that fits the room on paper but not with chairs pulled out is a table you will resent.
Round tables win in tight rooms. No corners to walk into.
Condition, plainly
Overstock means never sold, often still boxed. Returns mean somebody bought it and sent it back, usually over size or color.
Some tables have a flaw. A chipped laminate edge, a scratch across the top, a scuff on a leg. We tag those and price them accordingly, and we tell you before you pay.
A tablecloth costs twelve dollars. A chipped edge costs you a hundred off the price. Do that math.
Check the chairs individually if you are buying a set. Sit in each one. Sets sometimes travel with one weak chair, and if that is the case we would rather you find it here than at home.
Finish the room
A dining room usually wants storage too. Look at buffets, sideboards and consoles while you are on the floor. A buffet under a window does more work than most people expect.
